Going to Costa Rica… Again!

Written by Chris

Yeee-haaaawww…!

It’s about 2:25am here in Florida and I can’t go to sleep. I’m going to Costa Rica for a nice little surf trip for a couple of days. Four of my friends and I are going to the beautiful city of Playa Hermosa to catch some nice clean waves and to clear our minds.

Traveling Is Cheap!

Yes it’s true. I got my ticket to San Jose for $158.42. That’s expensive for Costa Rica. I’ve seen round trip plane tickets when they have sales going for $102.42 (I know the exact amount) and as low as $76. No I’m not kidding!

SpiritAir Plane Ticket

So traveling doesn’t have to be expensive. The best part is I’m following what Tim Ferriss said on his blog on what to bring.

Here’s what I’m bringing:

I’ll post some pictures of the trip and how it all relates to marketing. Things lately are starting to boil up and soon to blow up.

Wish me luck in the 12 ft waves!

Chris

Yup. American Gladiators is back and I going to try out. Today in Miami there were tryouts. My buddy Scott just let me know. Actually they are accepting video applications. I got some ideas…

Here’s my list of things to tape for my application:

  • Joust contest with padded pipes with pillows (tongue twister)
  • Powerball beat down
  • Wrestling match with Jonas
  • Tennis ball blaster
  • 20 yard dash past Justin (that’s cake)

What do you think I should do for the application? Let me know by leaving me a comment…

I think that should help me make it on the show. I can hear it now… The crowd is going nuts, “Brisson, Brisson, Brisson!!! YEAAA!”

Hahahaa I can’t wait for the video. I’ll post it when it’s up. If you’re interested in trying out for American Gladiators goto the casting site here:

In the meantime, here’s a video of my favorite American Gladiator video:

My Work Environment Almost Killed Me

Written by Chris

Here’s my story of work environment…

Back in 2002-2005 I had a business where we sold customer wheel and tire packages on ebay and over the internet. This was back when getting rims for your car were cool. It was the trend and I rode it all the way.

In fact, this was my first business where I had a so-called “office.” Well, not really an office, but more like a hellishly hott steambox. The first bay we got was about 80 sq ft. Yea, that didn’t last too long, only about 2 months and it was overflowing.

So the next move was to get a bigger space. This time it was around 500 sq ft and a nice step up. Well, being young and not really understanding much about warehouses I worked out of here doing everything there was in the business. From receiving containers full of tires, stacking rims, mounting wheels, filling the tires with air ,balancing the rims, packaging the wheels and tires in a box or wrapping them with stretch wrap so they wouldn’t get scratched on the FedEx truck, returning phone calls, placing orders, doing deals, posting on ebay, creating a website, …………….

I did it all…

The best part was this warehouse was on average 95 degrees EVERYDAY! Some days, actually most days, I dreaded going into the warehouse to do all of the above. I mean it was freaking HOTT!

My orders started to lack, I slowed down my postings on ebay, I was behind on some orders… things just were not fun in that warehouse. It’s because of my work environment. The sweat dripping down my face didn’t help much.

Well, it gets better…

About a year later, I move into a 3 bay warehouse, probably about a 1,500 sq ft place. One space was for my wheels, tires, boxes, mini-heatbox “office”, and just junk. And the other two were for my car – my project car. A 1992 Black Mustang coupe, no engine, just the shell. It was a beauty I had all the intention to fix this sucker up.

But I didn’t you know why?

My Work Environment Was Killing Me!

In fact, I got robbed the first day I moved into this bigger heatbox. $3,000 gone – like that.

The heat, the stolen goods, it all took a toll on me. My environment halted my growth.

I remember reading back in high school about a scientist who went into a factory and saw that product was down. So he installed some lamps and lights above the workers and productivity grew by 25%. It’s true…

So if you work alone, go for a walk, get some fresh air at least 3-4 times per day. Go outside, sunshine is what brings us energy. Start your day off with a swim, a run, a jog, a 100 push ups. Get your blood pumping…

BONUS: I did a call with two of my good friends Justin Zimmerman and Jon Jonas about the importance of work environment. I’m going to run down an edit and post it up in the next couple of days. You’ll like it…

Ok so everyday, I come into the office make my list of things to complete for the day (if I don’t do it the night before) and I before I start my work I start my favorite work music.

I must say that I’ve been through it all. Tried playing my Offspring, Breaking Benjamin, Sublime, Incubus, 311, but for some reason I always get distracted because I sing along. It took me a while to finally say… ok I can’t do that anymore.

So about 3 months ago, I ended up seeing this awesome video online from this guitarist Andy McKee. I must say I was blown away! Simply put, he’s amazing!

So about 1 month ago, I was asking my friends for some tunes for my iTunes to play while I work. My criteria was:

  1. No music with words
  2. No music with a hard rock beat
  3. Something with guitar

So a buddy of mine Jon at Sober.com sent me over some… you guessed it Andy McKee. I got the cd and it rocks. I’m more productive than I’ve ever been and the music is so soothing. Ok, so the point of this blog post is: If you want to get stuff done without the distractions - my favorite artist to listen to when I work is Andy McKee. Download it now.

I can guarantee you’ll like it.

If you’re an Andy McKee fan post a comment on my blog.

Cheers,

Chris Brisson

P.S. I’m working on cleaning up the blog now so bare with me during these next couple of days while I do a complete overhaul… Any suggestion? I’m an open book…
